Istanbul was at the top with 772.3 million dollars of exports from the agricultural sector in January. Istanbul was followed by Izmir, Gaziantep, Mersin and Antalya. The grains, pulses, oilseeds and products sector made the most exports in Istanbul.
According to information compiled from the Turkish Exporters Assembly data, Turkey’s agricultural exports increased by 9.3 percent on an annual basis in January, reaching 3.1 billion dollars. The share of agricultural exports in total exports was 18.2 percent.
Acting as the locomotive of Turkey’s exports, Istanbul also took the lead in delivering agricultural products to all over the world. Istanbul, which was the city that exported the most in January with exports of 7.2 billion dollars, also stood out with its export of agricultural products worth 772.3 million dollars. Thus, the city made 24.7 percent of Turkey’s total agricultural exports.
Istanbul is followed by Izmir with 371.8 million dollars, Gaziantep with 316.1 million dollars, Mersin with 208.3 million dollars, Antalya with 113.6 million dollars, Bursa with 101.9 million dollars, Ankara with 92.9 million dollars, and 90.9 million dollars. Trabzon was followed by Hatay with 89.5 million dollars and Adana with 85.5 million dollars.
THE MOST DEMAND IS FOR CEREAL PRODUCTS
When we look at the sub-sectors under the heading of agriculture, the grains, pulses, oilseeds and products sector made the most exports in Istanbul with 300 million 73 thousand dollars. This sector was followed by furniture, paper and forest products with 245.8 million dollars, aquaculture and animal products with 61.7 million dollars, and fruit and vegetable products with 57.4 million dollars.
In January, hazelnuts and their products worth 55.5 million dollars, dried fruits and products worth 19.7 million dollars, tobacco worth 15.2 million dollars, fresh fruits and vegetables worth 9.2 million dollars, olives and olive oil worth 7.2 million dollars, 407 thousand dollars were purchased from the city in January. Ornamental plants and their products were exported for $100,000.
When we look at other provinces that stand out in agricultural exports, we can see grains, pulses, oil seeds and products in Gaziantep, Ankara and Adana, fresh fruits and vegetables in Mersin, Antalya and Hatay, furniture, paper and forest products in Izmir and Bursa, hazelnuts in Trabzon. and products sectors took the lead.
In January, the grains, pulses, oilseeds and products sector achieved exports of 237.9 million dollars from Gaziantep, 43.8 million dollars from Ankara and 37.6 million dollars from Adana.
During this period, the fresh fruit and vegetable sector exported 95.9 million dollars from Mersin, 73.7 million dollars from Antalya, and 53.5 million dollars from Hatay.
The furniture, paper and forest products sector exported 67.4 million dollars from Izmir, 54.5 million dollars from Bursa, and the hazelnuts and products sector exported 57.1 million dollars from Trabzon.
